Thursday night I attended one of McQueen Sessions and was impressed about one of the singers Zarif. Amazing voice, catchy melodies, interesting lyrics and impressive reviews from the number of newspapers and magazines in UK. I present you singers with very strong qualities of superstar.
Bringing together the classic songwriting of Stevie Wonder with the 80s pop sensibilities of Cyndi Lauper, North London based singer-songwriter Zarif creates her own brand of quirky eclectic soul. After featuring The Nextmen’s critically acclaimed album “This Was Supposed To Be The Future” including the single “Something Got You”, Zarif was propelled into the limelight and has since appeared in many of 2009’s One To Watch lists. She began this year supporting Chris Brown on his arena tour, and went on to be picked as the support act for the Queen of R’n’B herself, Beyonce, on her UK tour.
Zarif’s impressive touring credentials don’t stop with Beyonce. She has been a major feature on the festival circuit for the last 2 summers, including stints at Glastonbury, Bestival, Get Loaded In The Park and V Festival. She even caught the attention of the Grammy award winning John Legend, who asked her to duet with him at this year’s Tommy Hilfiger Sessions live on MTV. Zarif has worked and collaborated with Shy FX, Breakage, Toddla T and Sticky. She’s received reviews and write ups in the Guardian, Independent, Daily Star and magazines including Billboard, Elle, and Company.
All this for an artist who is still to put out her debut album. The much anticipated album, produced by Tommy D (Corrine Bailey Rae, Kanye) and Fraser T Smith (James Morrison, Tinchy Stryder) will be released in 2010 and includes the single Let Me Back, and the infectious “Box Of Secrets”, recently featured on an advert for Sky TV.
