Do you like classical music but also do you like go clubbing? New wave of classical music is in town!!! Limelight is the only regular classical club night in a central London rock & roll setting. Founded in July, 2009, the night was set up by two 30-somethings who wanted to make classical music more accessible to a younger, “hipper” crowd (golondon.about.com).
So far, so conservatoire, but what sets Limelight apart from a bangin’ night down at Wigmore Hall is that the artists will be taking a leaf out of the big book of rock’n’roll, bantering with the crowd, chatting about their choice of music and stagediving at the end of the every tune. Well, maybe not that last one. More commonly known as a venue at the vanguard of punk, rhythm’n’blues and jazz, the 100 Club is now putting its feelers out in an altogether different musical direction – classical (www.guardian.co.uk).
I love this great idea to promote classical music. What do you think?
If you like, next event will be soon. The percusionists ‘O Duo’ will take place in The 100 Club on 19 January, 2010. It aims to broaden the appeal of classical music by presenting it in a relaxed, intimate, lively environment.
